Bill is about to pull out. I followed in the car to the front of the campground, then we attached our toad (car in tow).

Our day started relatively early. The sky was so strange, as it if was mourning our leaving. Our backside neighbor was leaving today as well. He said he already missed it and hadn’t left yet! We were in Myrtle Beach for 22 days. It was a great time, but when it is time to go, we never mourn, unless we are leaving our grandsons! And then it only takes a day or two to get acclimated to our lifestyle back on the road.

We read a lot of blogs by full-time (and regular) RV travelers. We see a common theme among most of us. We prefer to only travel between 150 – 300 (max) miles a day, or three to five hours of driving time. Ideally, we’ve settled on about 200. While we could have made our trip from Myrtle Beach, SC to Fredericksburg, VA in one day, but it would have been about a 7 to 8 hour day (depending on traffic).

Today was a perfect travel day.  We drove right around 200 miles, leaving a little before 10 am (we aimed for 9:30, but what’s the rush?) and arrived by 2:30 pm.  Since we didn’t really rush, we arrived more or less refreshed, set up, took a walk around the campground, chatted with some neighbors and then made dinner.

We talked with our daughter on her way home from work. We’ve talked more these past two weeks since we had to make some plans. Every time she calls, she says, “Are you on your way here, yet?” Or something to that effect. It is great being so loved and our arrival so anticipated! We’ve also had some precious FaceTime with our older grandson (just over 2 1/2 years old) and some cute videos of him and his baby brother.

We have just less than 200 miles to travel tomorrow, but there will be a bit more pressure to leave earlier. First the weather report says it will be raining all morning, but not from 8 am to 9 am. (How can the weather be so precise?)  So if we can, it would be great for Bill to finish his outside work while it is not raining. If we leave at 9 am, we will arrive between 1 and 2 pm, depending on traffic and fueling up. It takes us about 30 minutes to set up. We are returning to a campground we have stayed a few other times. We had requested the same site, it fits our rig perfectly. We paid a deposit as we knew we would be there around this date, but somehow someone else got it with another long term stay. So we will be in a new area, which means we don’t know how quickly we can set up.

Then we will drive to our daughter’s home to get the spare car seats put into our car. Our son-in-law will be off work early because of the Good Friday holiday, so he will be in charge of dinner. We’ve decided on an easy and fun meal, taco salads.  We’ll pack up our car with our oldest grandsons’ over night bag and “stuff”  – a pack-and-play to sleep in, books and everything else a toddler needs!  Next, we will drop our son-in-law off to pick up his car from a shop, then Bill and I will pick the boys up from daycare. It is always so fun to see how excited they are when we pick them up!

Hopefully, we’ll get to play with them before our daughter gets home. We will visit with her while we eat dinner, then head to our campground, which is about a 30 minute drive away. We are glad for daylight savings time as Colin will want to play outside for a little bit before it is time for his bath and bed time! The GREAT news is that he will sleep about 12 hours!

And our bonus??? Colin loves his grandpas fluffy, cheesy scrambled eggs. We rarely eat eggs ourselves so we usually bring two from his home. But not this time!  Where we are staying has a chicken coop and 12 hens, which yield at least a dozen eggs every day.  Do you know how wonderful these fresh eggs will be?
